Peace by Chocolate Issues Precautionary Voluntary Recall of Select Pistachio-Containing Products

The people who enjoy our chocolate are always at the centre of everything we do. With that responsibility in mind, we have initiated a voluntary, precautionary recall of a limited number of pistachio-containing chocolate products manufactured on specific dates, following a recall action issued by one of our approved ingredient suppliers related to a specific lot of pistachios.

The recall has been classified as Class II by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), indicating a moderate, non-life-threatening risk. Importantly, there have been no reported illnesses associated with Peace by Chocolate products, and this recall is not related to our manufacturing processes or food safety controls.

Out of an abundance of caution, and as soon as we were notified, we immediately placed all relevant inventory on hold and worked closely with CFIA to ensure swift and appropriate action. Acting transparently, responsibly, and in the best interest of our community is a commitment we take very seriously.

Consumers who have purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them and to follow the instructions outlined in the CFIA recall list. or in the table below. Peace by Chocolate is offering refunds or online store credit to impacted customers, and our team is committed to supporting each request with care and understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions:

This FAQ is provided to support the recall notice issued by Peace by Chocolate and to answer common customer questions in accordance with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recall communication expectations.

1. Who does this recall apply to?
Only customers who received pistachio-related products made on certain dates. Check questions 6 & 7 for more details.

2. What is the reason for this recall?
Our pistachio supplier, Tootsi Impex Inc., issued a recall for a specific lot of pistachios due to a potential food safety concern identified after distribution.
At the time of purchase, Peace by Chocolate had received supplier laboratory analysis confirming the pistachios met food safety requirements. However, once the supplier recall was issued, Peace by Chocolate initiated a recall of affected finished products to comply with CFIA regulations.

3. What type of recall is this?
This is a Class II recall, meaning the affected products may pose a moderate risk of short-term or non-life-threatening health effects, according to CFIA classification criteria.


4. Is this recall related to Peace by Chocolate’s manufacturing practices?
No. This recall is not related to Peace by Chocolate’s manufacturing processes, sanitation programs, or food safety controls. It is a precautionary recall linked to a supplier-initiated raw material recall.

5. Have any illnesses been reported?
No. There have been no reported illnesses associated with Peace by Chocolate products related to this recall.

6. Which products are affected?
Visit the master CFIA list that you can check the affected products. Only products that match both:
The product name, and
The specific lot code(s) listed in the recall notice are affected.
Products with different lot codes are not affected and remain safe to consume.

7. How do I find the lot code?
The lot code and best-before date are printed on a white sticker applied to the product packaging, usually on the back or bottom of the package.
The lot code is the 5-digit number printed at the top of the sticker.
The best-before date is printed below the lot code in a year-month-day format.
If you are unsure whether your product is affected, please contact QA@peacebychocolate.ca and include a photo of the sticker for confirmation.

8. Are other Peace by Chocolate products affected?
No. Only products made using the specific pistachio lot codes identified in the recall notice are affected. All other Peace by Chocolate products remain safe.


9. What should I do if I have an affected product?
CFIA recommends the following actions:
Do not consume the affected product
Remove the product from sale or use
Record the product name, lot code, and quantity
Safely dispose of the product
Contact QA@peacebychocolate.ca to request a refund or online store credit. Photos may be provided where available.


10. Can I return the product instead of disposing of it?
No. For food safety reasons, recalled food products should not be returned. Please dispose of the product after recording the required information.

11. I purchased a chocolate bundle or gift box. What does this mean for me?
If a bundle or gift box contains one affected pistachio product, only that specific item is subject to the recall.
Please contact us with:
The bundle name
The affected product name and lot code
Quantity on hand
We will assist you accordingly.


12. What if I already consumed the product?
If you have already consumed the product and are not experiencing symptoms, no action is required.
If you feel unwell or have health concerns, please consult a healthcare professional and inform them that you consumed a recalled product.


13. Why is Peace by Chocolate recalling products if the pistachios were previously tested?
Supplier laboratory testing confirmed compliance at the time of purchase. The recall was initiated after distribution based on new information identified by the supplier.
Under CFIA regulations, food manufacturers are required to take prompt action once a supplier recall is issued. Peace by Chocolate initiated this recall out of an abundance of caution and regulatory compliance.


14. Will I receive a refund or credit?
Yes. Customers may request either:
An online store credit.
A refund.
Please email QA@peacebychocolate.ca  with the product name, lot code, and quantity to ensure timely processing.

16. What is Peace by Chocolate doing to prevent this in the future?

17. How long will it take to process my refund or store credit?
